About the Planting Guidance Brochure:
This planting guidance was produced by University of Delaware professor Dr.
Doug Tallamy, and student, Kimberley Shropshire. It represents the only
available attempt to synthesize known information on native insect fauna
and their associated woody and perennial host plants, at least by genera,
for a region of the U.S. We hope you'll find it useful in deciding what to
plant in your yard or public spaces in the mid-Atlantic region to better
provide habitat for native insects and other animals. For best effect, use
native species of the genera listed. Do not use any species that are known
or suspected to be invasive. If you are uncertain about a plant's
invasiveness, please check the plant list at http://www.ma-eppc.org.
For more information on native plants for landscaping and restoration,
please contact the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Chesapeake Bay Field
Office

for a copy of "Native Plants for Wildlife Habitat and Conservation
Landscaping" and the other native plant guides they offer. The Explore
Plants database at http://www.wildflower.org has many of the native species
associated with the genera recommended in the biodiveristy guidance along
with their planting requirements.
